Statement

The kind of painting - visual art - that I'm drawn to is that which I call 'opaque'; it resists being read or interpreted, it resists being 'used up' and all one knows is that something interesting is going on. Better said by a friend who sent me a little 'bon mot' saying 'Ritual is Meaning without Understanding'. A practise - working - is something akin to ritual and I was very pleased to find that aspects of my practise and approach as a painter transferred readily to the medium of lithography.
