Karolina Larusdottir was born in Reykjavik, Iceland 1944. She studied at the Sir John Cass College, London (1964-65), the Ruskin School of Art, Oxford (1965-67) and Barking College of Art (1977-80). She now lives and works in East Anglia. Her grandfather was the Strongman in Barnham & Bailey circus and he returned and built the first hotel in Iceland. Her watercolours, oil paintings and hand-made lithographs & etchings are often inspired by her childhood in Iceland. Her grandfather's hotel in Reykjavik has provided a wealth of her ideas. Her work has a dry humour that is timeless and all she is painting is “People being themselves”. In 1993 her biography was published in Iceland. She has won numerous awards and commissions, one being the Icelandic Government for visiting dignitaries including Mary Robinson the (past) President of Ireland. Her work is featured in private and public collections world-wide including those of The British Museum, London, The Vatican, H.M. Queen Elizabeth, The Cathedral in Reykjavik and the Icelandic National Collection. Member of: The New English Art Club, Royal Society of Painter Printmakers, Royal Watercolour Society.
