Born in Blaenau Ffestiniog in 1951 into a family of mostly quarrymen. After attending school he attended the Manchester School of Art. Disillusioned, he left before completing the course, to return home and worked in a local slate quarry for two years before taking up painting again.

For a long time worked mainly on private commissions and book illustrations etc and decided some years ago to concentrate on exhibiting and “doing what I like”.

His work is mostly about “Cymru” and “Y Cymry” (land and people), and is either completed out of doors before the subject or based on pencil or watercolour sketches. Weather, season, light (or the lack of it) place names, snippets of conversation etc. dictate the choice of motif.
