Photographic Contone* is a unique process to the studio, which allows the reproduction of a negative/photograph in true continuous tone. Most reproductions of photographic imagery are scanned and then printed, which means that the prints from it are made up of dots, therefore a certain amount of the image will be blank and your eye makes up the rest. The dots can be very small and close together, but inevitably some information is not printed. In our process this is not the case, all the information held on the original negative is printed giving a true reproduction. The results of this process give a rich tonal range and are similar to Silver Gelatin or Platinum prints. The artist/photographer is in full control of the printmaking process, selecting the paper on which we print and the colour of the inks used, hand mixed to their exact choice. A variation in exposure and development of the films is also their choice, giving great flexibility and control. All the materials used in making these prints are archival ensuring that they will not fade over the years. * patent applied for |
